aeration in the rain?

    Is it tough to core aerate when it is raining or the ground is wet? Using a ryan core aerator.

    Yes , you will typical do more damage then good. We never aerate in April because of that.

    Aeration in very wet conditions can do more harm than good. You tend to pack the soil around the hole rather than fracture it. The cores get compacted into bricks and usually the soil is so soft you just push the soil down causing compaction rather than pulling a core. Lastly your foot prints and wheels will tend to compact the soil. Plus if you are in clay soil you will gain about 20 pounds of mud on your boots.

    wait until you have had several dry day's in row before aerating.
