Here is a not fun conversation. Rain Bird gets product ideas on a very regular basis. We used to just review them and respond to the person who submitted them. Then, we found that people who had submitted an idea that was rejected later saw something introduced by Rain Bird that they felt was their idea or inspired by their idea. If this ever was the case, Rain Bird was already working on the product that was then released to the market. Rain Bird does not disclose what new products it is working on for a variety of reasons. So, the 'inventor' was not told this at the time. Hard feelings are very easy to generate in a loose process like we had. You may have seen stories in the news along these lines. We have now moved many years ago to a rigorous and onerous process to accept product ideas. Most people choose to not participate once they see it. It is an unfortunate situation, but one that is unavoidable in our litigous society. Please contact me directly if you think you have a product idea that you would like to submit. [ firstname.lastname@example.org ] Do not tell me what it is. I will send to you the package that will explain the process. Only after you have filled out the forms and signed the agreement can anyone at Rain Bird evaluate your idea.
