Maybe everybody already knew this but I just found out the Chevrolet fazed out their 350ci. engine. You can no longer order a 350ci. 5.7 engine. Your choices are now a 4.3 Vortec V-6, or a 5.2 V8 which is a 327ci. block. From there you step up to a 6.2 which is a 396ci. block. I'm sorry if the numbers are not correct.
Can anyone answer why they are fixing something that isn't BROKE? Guess I'll just have to find an older truck.
If this information is WRONG please CORRECT me.

I believe that the new motors are based on the Corvette block, as least the 327 is. I think it makes its power higher up in the rpm band, which is why they now have the 6.0 liter V8, and came out with the 8.1 liter V8. I think '99 was the last year you could get a 350, and that was only in the C/K body style crewcabs and suburbans. Progress.

I remember when the 5.2 came out, every one liked the power better with the right gearing under the truck.

What gets me is the new inline 6 ; yes inline 6, that is in the new Envoys.

I've always believed inline 6 bangers were the best truck motors, due to their simple design and torque.

This engine is the same displacement that was in the 6's you found in Biscaynes, Novas, etc. Even brand new these engines would shake like a dog s#itting razor blades. I sure hope they arent the same 250 ci warmed over...

I test drove a new Envoy with the 270hp I 6.it was erry smooth and quiet.I guess I expected to much,I feel my 95 4.3 S blazer is much snappier, and much torqiuer, although flat out,I think the I 6 might nip it out.Power doesnt start until 4800-it shifts at 5500,tiny powerband. The vehicle is too heavy for 4.2 liters of engine IMO.It is amost 4700 lbs.A V8 is badly needed for that truck. You could still get the Vortec 5700 in 2000 in the C/K and sierra classic trucks.I thought the Vans still used the Vortec 5700 ,too.

Just read in USA TODAY that GM is stopping prouction of the CAMARO and FIREBIRD! 2003 will be the last model year:cry:

Before we know it the trucks will be next. Then we will be pulling our trailers with HONDA's!

According to GM its gone at the end of the 2002 model year

No big deal they were world class POS when they came out in 67, were the albatross around the dealers necks in the 80s when I sold them and had to deal with irate owners over crappy assembly quality, and GM never got their act together.

Brand new anniversary edition Trans Am with the 3.8 turbo, maybe an 89 or 90(memory is going sorry) open the hood theres remnants of newspaper under the hood, paint overspray over everything and a rap in the engine. All this and 3.2 miles on the odometer!!! Unfortunately this was typical. 87 GTA, body panels misaligned so bad that the doors creaked when you opened them from rubbing on the fenders.

Good riddance. Maybe they'll resurrect the Caprice.

Bill, the 3.8 turbo was in 89,and the plant that built those junkers was Van nuys Ca,the canadain St theresa plant that builds the 93-current ones is light years ahead in quality. They do have a great powertrain for the buck, but every other aspect of the car is severly dated, its huge on the outside, tiny inside, floor pan is terribly laid out, windshield seems to extend over the hood, and wipers, cowl restrict visbiltiy.

Thanks Bill for the correction. And you're right, the newer models are POS! It's just the fact that they are putting the names to rest. Heck, the only real GM are I ever really liked (and still own) is my 87 Buick GN. Now if they reproduce those cars again...I will buy a couple. My 87 when I bought it back in 88 the price tag was around $18,500.........I get offers all the time in excess of $20,000 every time I have it out and about!...only Got 10k on the odometer! (I think 2K was done a 1/4 mile at a time if you know what I mean:D ).
