I know there's been thousands of trimmer line threads but I couldn't find one that compares the oregon magnum gatorline and the platinum gatorline.

First off I can't find either locally for some reason. Most dealers sell echo crossfire line and stihl line.

Any opinions which is better for edging and trimming? I don't use a dedicated edger just the string trimmer. I currently am using echos crossfire line because I bought a 3lb spool of it and its finally almost gone.

The only difference that I saw between the two was the platinum was the same it just was more heat tolerate to keep it from welding to it self when it got hot. But I have never had that problem we run the gator magnum .105 round

Fyi, check eBay or amazon for spool prices, usually have anything you want and good prices.

I can't speak for the Magnum, but am very impressed with the Platinum. Was having issues with any line that wasn't round welding in my Honda 35cc trimmer. Finally found the Platinum and it lasts like no other line I've ever tried. I also edge with my trimmer and choose to do all my detail work with as low an RPM as possible to minimize projectile speed. I believe the added stiffness of the Platinum coupled with the toughness makes for a winner.

Having said all this, I feel it wise to bring up a possible negative in that there's been a thread or two saying that the Platinum is so tough it is tearing up guards. I cannot speak to this as I removed my guard the very day I first spooled up this Platinum.

    I'm sold on Platinum...period. :cool2:

I was planning to buy it from ebay if I can't locate it locally. Should I buy .95 or .105? I'm glad to hear that its a durable line and will break guards before it breaks the line. I run without the guard so I'm not worried about that. I just keep hearing so many good things about the oregon magnum and the platinum and want to give it a shot.

Ridin' Green shared this and I concur that the .105 is essentially the same size at most .095 lines. Not sure why either. I did not compare the two at my purchase (I should have)...I just went with the larger line.

Your FS-100RX certainly has the power to get the most out of this line. I've not had this line break prematurely, nor has it welded to itself even once.

I edge with my trimmer a lot, and magnum gatorline is by far the best I have ever used

I just purchased a 3lb spool of platinum this morning. I normally use magnum so I will post back on here as soon as I get to use some.

Does Magnum Gatorline have a shape to it...IE square, round, star, hexagonal, etc...?

The Platinum Supertwist has a mild twist to it, but the coating makes it smooth-ish.

To my knowledge the magnum comes in round, square, twist, and maybe star? I'm excited to give this stuff a try tomorrow.
