I am considering a move to California, The Santa Maria area. Can anyone comment on the atmosphere for an LCO in that area or California in general. I know you have to have licenses for just about everything out there is there a such thing as a Lawn Mowing license or trimming hedges.
What type of grass is out there?
Is it a 12 month season?

    Any insights would be helpful

I lived in San Diego for about 12 years. I was not in the business then, however the grass of choice is fescue..

    Hope that helps.

In San Diego it is a 12 month season. Some of the grass varities go dormant, however the cool season grass grow well. Basically you need a business license from each city you operate in. Biggest thing to be aware of is the Storm Water regulations. Big fines if you leave behind anything that can go down a storm drain. Be prepared, have a hazardous spill kit in every company truck. That way if you have a gas or oil spill you can clean it up.
A lot of lcos have found out about the Storm Water regs the hardway, fines.
