So this year i'm down on weekly cut customers for grass and i think there's room to expand into seal coating. I'm looking for an entry level sprayer, and i think i found a halfway descent deal on-line. , this sprayer comes with the motor, wand, 50ft of hose and the pump agitates as it goes. If i were to buy this machine what else would i need to get going? a barrel of sealcoat, a wire wheel for my sthil kombi edger? some cold crack patch and some degrease?

And pricing, materials x2 a good rule of thumb or more? or less?

im doing the same their is lots of new guys here so getting some new customers is hard.i was on ebay back in feb and asphalt kingdom was selling the same system so i bid on it and didnt win it sold for 600.00. the there was a second one i bid and didnt win sold for 850.00. so i contacted them and they told me they NEVER sold one for that price!!! so i tell them the time and date of each transaction, then they change their tune. they told me that they did sell for that but the purchaser was told it would cost more???? WHAT THE **** you cant charge more after the auction is over. so i asked can i buy for that price and they told me no. i posted a question about this system because i dont want to buy a system for 10,000. i recieved some mixed results, some said dont buy its junk and some said its a great starter system. i thinking of building one myself i can get the tank free and i was at a tractor supply and the engine and pump are around 350 to 400. dont know how much more it will cost. but check ebay out. their is a unit without the tank for 850. let me know how you make out ( pm me)

I don't think building it yourself is a good idea.

To be honest, kingdom asphalt doesn't have the best quality material out there, not reliable.

You are actually not to far from one of my vendors. Protect asphalt.

There is a lot of stuff involve seal coating, and especially if you are new, it only takes a small mistake to cost you a lot. You need experience, to do it. If you ever decide to do it, I would consider spraying your own driveway first to get the hang of it. Because trust me, you do not want to spray sealant on someones garage door or interlock, especially if your new and don't have the proper material to take it out.

My best advice is: do a lot of research on seal coating, especially that you have no clue what to charge, you need to be more experience if you want to take seal coating seriously.

Any relation to Gauvreau top soil? the guys that race the modifides and street stock?

I defiantly plan on giving this a few trial runs with friends and family and maybe a rental house or two that i maintain. I don't like jumping head first into things without testing the waters, but i'm constantly looking at ways to expand my business and list of services. Theres a few places locally that i plan on calling and stopping by to try and pick some knowledge.

Yes indeed, related to them, and garage Gauvreau and also Gauvreau Ski-Doo.

I'm not saying you need to go to school to learn the aspects about sealing, you just need some knowledge and experience, do some research on the internet, talk with people.

You want to make sure that when you talk with a home owner for a quote, you know your product and the benefits about it. Not just say "I will make your driveway look black"

And yes driveway sealing is a good way to expend your business, if you do good work, people will love that, especially on a beautiful day, you will have lots of people on the street asking you question.

My best day last year was 14 driveways sold and sealed in one day. Average price was 190-200$ish. You must also learn to be a good salesman, after that, the work speaks for it self.

Good luck mate! if you need more info pm me.

A good place to start your research would be Asphalt Sealcoating Direct.Com, they look to have several entry level systems and equipment packages. They also offer free information for the beginner. We buy Asphalt Sealer from them sometimes. :usflag:

    thanks for the links guys,
When is the best time of the year to be seal coating? i always thought early to mid summer but i've seen a few houses done already localy.
Also is this something that you push every year or every other year? how long does a coat last?

The best condition is when its 15C degrees for at least 48 hours, but ya some people have started in my area locally, meaning its good to start before them!

So I'm pritty sure i'm going to be ordering this equipment in the next couple of weeks, How have your booking been so far? is it steady? do you do most of your stuff by appointment or do you go knocking on doors?

Also, what kind of entry level "crack repair" equipment should i be looking at, will the cold stuff work for most of what i'm going to be doing?
