I was given a 21" commercial mower the other day with the 6hp Kawi on it that appeared to be brand new. It had very low compression so I pulled the head and the head gasket between the cylinder and push rod galley was not there. There is no visible erosion of the head or deck so it wasn't running for long after the gasket fell apart. The parts are only $11 so I'm going to have a nice cheap mower but this is the first time I've heard of something like this so I'm just asking.
    TIA, John...

This is probably a FJ180V, Kawi did have an issue with all spec# with serial#'s below B84803. If the head bolts are gold colored do not replace, but if they are silver repl along with the new gasket. Torq the head bolts to 26 N.m(2.6kgf.m, or 19ft-lbs) The complete kit with new bolts is 99999-7044 If you only need the new bolts they are 130T0840 and you will need 4 of them.

    Hope this helps:)

3 years ago, we bought 6 new toro 21's w/ the kawi. All of them went into the shop twice for warranty work on a blown gaskets. One mower went in 4 times!

To be fair, we run our Toro Proline 21"s about 30 hours per week.

We have sold most of the Kawis off, and are switching to the Honda powered Toro 21.

Thanks guys. I've already got the gaskets but now I'll get the bolts too. I usually don't CopperCoat head gaskets but this time I may and just let things fall where they may if it blows again.
