What I have noticed in my area is that many homeowners who actually care about how their lawn looks do a crappy job of edging and trimming. I have had very good success running niche market ads in the paper, however mowing ads have frankly been a disaster.

haha hey thats not a bad idea but how would you charge i mean you would have to come up with some version of a system. most people who cut there own grass have never seen what a landscaping company charges. i Start talking price with my family who has done it them selfs all there life. the Heads kinda roll

$39 or $49 min charge to show up an do any basic work that covers any small jobs for the 20 to 30 min range. Any bigger trim edging jobs beyond and hour just bid on it. As of yet I have never had any issue with folks not wanting to pay a $49 bare minimum for a specialty service and this is on the phone. I have noticed that there has been some resistance once you go over $68 for minimum charge for any service. If you state that will cover the fist "X" number of minutes, with the quoted fee, they almost always understand and never protest. No billings paid a the time of service - done deal.

All the equipment I would need will fit in my Toyota truck no trailer required. 18+ mpg vs. 11 mpg with my 4runner pulling my enclosed 6 x 12.

All I need is my high vac bagger 21" mower, power edger's, sting trimmers, BP blower, spares, sprinkler flags, marking paint and misc tools and parts. Great opportunity to up sell them on my superior fall aeration special payup

If they care enough to call for a nice professional edging job they will typically be willing to pay the going minimum. These ads attract better customers than mowing lawncare ads.

I have one customer that cuts his own and has me stop to trim, edge, blow.

I'm solo but if I had an employee I would do the trim, edge. I've had a few clients mention how they like the details I do. Riding or walking a mower requires little to no experience. imo

All my employees are just as good an edger and trimmer as me. Just not as fast. In Florida everybody does pretty well with trimming and edging.

I know that tree compaines arborist here in Memphis are looking to increase their profits too, and are now offering running radio advertising for their new shrub/oramental trimming sevices, mulch leaf clean-up some are also offering lawn maintenance mowing programs. The more diversified you become the less you know in a specific area, but you cannot put all of your eggs in one basket either? Good management/budgeting skills are required in this economy, more so than just 4 years ago in this indusrty.

Just wondering if the Tanaka TLE-600 and a decent sticker edger would be adequate?

What is the ideal depth for dog fence wire?
