thinking about picking a used one up for a backup. Ransomes, 36", 12.5 kawi, catcher, etc...it is a 97, for about $700.

Ransomes has been around for over 100 years, mostly involving mowing equipment with reels. I've used a 52" and a 36" walkbehind. Very good mowers.

Ive heard of them , but never had one. I would call some of the dealers in your area and ask if they can work on ransomes and/or get parts. I see a lot of Ransome parts listed in Mowmore.com

I have a Ransomes 36[bobcat]. It has been very good to me and I would recommend it to anyone.

I own two bobcats and put tons of hours on them. Both are ztr's. Could not be happier with them. One is a 52 and the other is a 61. Looking at purchasing a walk behind this year.
