I have heard of this engine in a 2wd 6 speed manual getting in the 20's as far as mpg???? I simply dont believe this in a 3/4 ton. I have two gassers a chevy 5.7 and a dodge 5.9....both avg from 8 loaded to 12 unloaded. I am driving 100+ miles a day so if this is true...even if less when trailering, It may make sense to look into this configuration????

Never heard of a Cummings engine? What kind of truck would I find one of these Cummings engines in?

Yes, the cummins gets that good of mileage. Stock. All the power you can ask for, also. Ran ford powerstroke to pull a 50ft. gooseneck race car trailer for years. Got a dodge and kicking self for not getting one sooner. If you do some things to it, I know guys getting high 20's. My opinion, it's definitely worth it. Maintenance and parts fairly cheap too.

The 12v 5.9L Cummings (pre 1998.5) are supposed to get better mileage than the 24v engines, although they put out less horsepower.

To get mileage like that, it almost has to be a common rail...03 and up.

But yes, it is possible. Just don't trust the factory overhead computer.

I don't understand why people add an unnecessary "g" to Cummins however, the "g" is often left off of other words, such as "I'm runnin' over to the store."

Because about half of the U.S. population is functionally illiterate.

    I get 20-22MPG on the highway with my 03 Ram/Cummins. 10-12 locally.

I saw a craiglist ad just now from a dealership selling an 06 Cummins and it was spelled with a G, just shrugged and laughed at the stupidity. Cummins is not spelled with a G!!!!!!!
