I have heard from others that hemlock growing alongside turf areas treated with Merit as grub control have effectively knocked down the wooly aldegid problem.Anyone using Merit granules or other grub control intended for lawn use for this?

Using Merit for controlling Hemlock Wooly Adelgid is a very good idea, especially if the trees are too tall to spray. I used to use a Kioritz injector with the Merit mixed inside and would inject it around the base of the trees.

I agree 100% the only true end all is merit, in this situation I have usually soil injected merit or in some instances bucket drenched for awesome control and alott less contact spraying which = Happy customers.

I agree, I hate spraying unless I have to, generally only spray oils and fungicides when needed. Most everything else is drench, kyoritz or injectables.

Customers are happier and the neighbors dont come runnin either.

I doubt you would get enough merit from some over spread while doing a lawn to have enough uptake to amount any real amount of control on a tree.

Anything other than Merit for an effective soil drench? It's restricted here, and I can't use it till next year. (Cert nonsense) I have one customer with a severe infestation, and told him to call his tree man immediately. Saw the hemlock today, hasn't been treated. If there is another pesticide that would work, would mean another app for me.... any suggestions>? Maybe Dylox?

Do you know the ballpark price they're asking for that unit?

Yes we use it for HWA control.

If there are Large numbers of Hemlock within an Acre and it would mean going over the "Legal Limit" of Merit Active Ingrediant per acre, we do a merit "Foliar" spray in early fall insted, to spray them when they are small, and have not produced the wooly white yet. Use a surfactant too. The foilar will give you about 30 days of control......Only one, 1.6 oz packet of the Merit 75 WSP. per 300 gallons. This IS very Profitable App.
