I'm new to the forum... Nice place for good info and I need some myself from pressure washer pump experts...

I picked up a Troy Bilt pressure washer for light duty washing needs and have a few questions about changing the pump oil. The information I've found from a few different sources seem to contradict itself (even from AR) on this subject of change intervals & what oil to use.

Here's the pressure washer details...
Troy Bilt model# 20209 S/N: 1010411108
Briggs & Stratton 7.25 OHV Intek
3000psi 2.5 GPM
Pump: Annovi Reverberi SJV 3G27-1

The manual I have for the pump says this is a "maintenance free" pump and the oil never needs changing. (hard to believe) However, it also indicates that the oil should be changed after the first 50hrs and then every 500hrs. Oil doesn't last forever and I tend to believe that this is a "low maintenance" pump vs. a "no Maintenance" pump. I'm at about the 50hr use interval now, so I think I better figure out how to change it and with what oil.

The oil weight/type... The mfg label on the pump itself says use SAE 75w-90 oil, however... AR's FAQs on their website indicates using 30w non-detergent or pressure washer specific pump oil. (Which seems to be the most common practice per general Internet sources like this one.)

Lastly... How do I drain the used oil? The pump only has a fill cap, but not a drain. Do I have to pull the pump so I can turn it over and drain the oil from the fill hole?

Sorry to be long-winded, but I consider that oil change maintenance is the life of my investments and want to make sure I get good information from the experts here. Any answers from those who know more about this than I do would be greatly appreciated!!

THANKS!!

The quick explanation is: you do not change blades in your Bic razor do you?

It is highly unlikely this pump will last long enough for the oil to be an issue. These are disposable pumps from the leaders in making disposable pumps; that is why you see them on almost all consumer pressure washers. Based upon industry performance standards, the engine on this washer is likely only a 200 hour engine, if even that.

I was in this business as a supplier for many years and it all has gone to China and decreased in quality every year. I remember that there used to be a 1,000 hour life test for the pumps. The final one I worked on had a 50 hour life standard.

My advice is use it until it dies and if it lasted long enough, then buy another one just like it. If it does not, then buy a different one next time.

Non Detergent 30W is what we use per industry Professionals concensus and suggestion. They make a siphon pump for removing oil but surprises me that there isn't a drain plug.
I thought of the siphon pump, but the inner workings of the pump are directly beneath the fill plug and looks to be impossible to feed even a small hose down to the bottom to suck out the oil.

Regarding the longevity... I realize this is not a commercial grade machine. I purchased it for light duty. I didn't want to spend big $$ on something I only need occasionally for small jobs. I have to believe keeping the oil fresh will increase its life expectancy.

This is an older post, but I have something to add. The SJV is not simply a disposable pump. Actually is rated at 800 hrs. service life if cared for properly and is completely rebuildable. AR (like other companies) does make axial pumps designed to last only a few hundred hours, but the SJV isn't one of them. The synthetic oil in these pumps can last as long as the pump itself provided internal leaks don't occur, which of course would lead to contamination.

For those wanting good performance a few days a week, using it a few hrs. at a time, the SJV is a great pump.
