Are there any guys on here from Florida,or the deep south that only use the Hustler Super Z,with the VX4 deck? I'm asking this because I read so many mixed reviews as to cut quality. I've also been told that the Hustler VX4 deck, and the Scag velocity deck are basically the very same deck.

The only thing you MUST do is demo the machine very well in all types of conditions.
The deck can be very good to extremely bad. But not for everyone everywhere. You need to see if it works for you.

In the end, its a fickle deck. It can be great but also insanely bad. Depends on what where and when your mowing. I have a heap of vid on YT. Both good and bad!

I also should say, Im not in Florida but have very similar conditions. Bermuda, Buffalo, St Aug etc among others.

Ive only cut 3 acres of dry and partially dormant Bahia since i bought mine so i cant really comment on QOC for a couple months. I can say the ride, power, speed and hillside traction are great though. I researched for months and spoke to dozens of Miami and Gainesville area LCOs and they all recommended Hustlers. I demoed a JD and a Scag and felt the Hustler best fit my needs. It was expensive so i tried really hard to make sure the decision was one i wouldnt regret. Listen to Mickhippy. Demo it before biting the bullet. The X-One I demoed was a great mower as well but i figured since i was in a spending mood and liked the feel of the SZ i said what the hell and bought the big brother. The thing about the SZ thats weird is that the chute on the 54" VX4 deck is alot bigger then the chute on the 54" XR7 decks. Areas i used to be able to squeeze an older XR7 in are really tight on the VX4. I had a phonecall with qwikchute today though so that will be changing soon too now. ;)

Mick's picture is showing a 48" V+ deck and a 60" VX4. When you look at both brands in 60" size, there are more noticeable differences, but the main one is the differences in discharge opening and design. Another is that the V+ deck skirt seems to be a little bit more "pointed" in front of the center blade on the same sized deck. Also, those anti blowout baffles on the V+ do a better job of creating more low pressure over them which definitely helps with vacuum and discharge.

yes i thought the same as mchippy since they look very similar. i dunno why but they don't cut the same. it's amazing how such little difference can make a big difference in cut quality.

then again i've seen youtube videos where a guy preferred the cut of the hustler over the scag. i'll see if i can find it. i guess in some conditions the hustler might cut better while in others it does way worse.

i dunno really. it has to do with the grass you are cutting, what blades you are using, discharge chute on or off, and all sorts of factors. i guess the hustler "can" cut well but it doesn't always. the scag on the other hand cuts "well" all the time in every condition.

if he took the discharge chute off the scag and used g6 blades it would get rid of the long clippings he talks about in the video.

that is his complaint about the scag. it's the long clippings. all high velocity decks produce long clippings. the 7 iron does too. using g6 blades takes the long clippings and cuts them up into shorter pieces so you are left with no clippings on the lawn. :D

to me in the video the cut looks about the same on both mowers. i think maybe the discharge chute on the hustler is better at spreading out the clippings is all. i never mow with a discharge chute on anyways and most guys don't either because they get in the way.

he shows some xr7 deck stripes towards the end of the video and it looks alot closer to the scag cut than the vx4 deck does.

anyways it looked like this guy had better luck with the vx4 deck on his yard. on another yard it may look worse. it just varies depending on what you are mowing which is strange. the scag cut will look the same on every yard.

they aren't good for exmark decks. exmark decks are not high velocity decks. as for a john deere or scag deck the G6 blades greatly improve the cut by chopping up the clippings into smaller pieces.

i run G6 blades on my jd 7 iron and i would never go back to factory high lift blades. they are cheaper, leave fewer clippings, last longer, and put less drag on the engine as well.

i have sandy soil here so the factory blades it would wear the sails right off of them. the G6 sails hold up and don't wear off so quickly. they don't curve up quite as high as the high lift blades. i guess they are more of a medium lift blade?

regular gator blades are not the same as G6 blades. they are totally different. some dealers haven't figured that out yet.

anyways it goes back to what i said in another thread. the transmission and handling is the best part of a hustler.

i think the perfect mower would be hustler handling/transmission with ferris suspension and a 7 iron or velocity + deck on it.

I don't know why guys runs those blades for mowing lawns . I never did like them, at least I didn't think they worked well on Exmark ultra cut decks. Kinda got the same sloppy cut as he's having in the video at 3.5 or 4. I'll stick with my factory high lifts...
I have great luck with G6's at certain times of the year, but at others, the OEM high lifts work best. The G6's definitely work better on leaves than the factory blades. I can see why they might not work so well under a UC deck since it is baffled so tightly and chops the stuff up pretty fine as it comes. They would probably just make a mess more than improve the QOC. Under more open decks though, they work quite well.

"db682," here is some information I wanted you to have. You do not have the rubber isolators under your regular Super Z seat, this feature adds tremendously to the air-ride function in providing a better ride, you honestly cannot believe the difference it makes unless you experience it for yourself. This addition can be made to your seat for roughly $175, and believe me when I tell you it is worth every penny. The feature gives you a feel of floating when hitting anything that would cause you body to suddenly jolt either forward or backward.

I am attaching a drawing of this addition, of which you will see the part number in the bottom right corner.

Your contact is below, tell Nick that Reid talked with him about the addition of this isolator to your regular Super Z; which comes stock with the Hustler Super Z HyperDrive.

Don't you have all the youtube videos of the hustler super z complaining about the poor cut quality in everyone? I watch your videos! lol

We run a 72 super z rear discharge and a 72 scag tt we run them side by side on about 20 acres of bahia a week they both cut good i would say the cut is about the same on both mowers with the tt cut being slightly better but i will say the super z can cut full stick with maybe one or two stragglers and it will cut circles around the tt as far as speed
