    Hi everyone,

I'm a sucker for rock gardens/zen gardens and other asian themed landscapes with flowing water. Any experts on board that can help estimate the cost of such a project?

Like anything else, an estimate is merely the sum of the component parts. What all are you doing?

thx Paper, just doing the research right now, but looking to add maybe a 14 x 6 rock garden (a few larger rocks, smaller fill rocks for the raked design).

Some sort of small water cycling fountain or rock array would be ideal. Just wondering if anyone has had experience or had project images they could share

I think you should do a little more research on Karesansui or "Zen" gardens, before you just jump right into one. They are more specific than you think. I would also stay away from any water features, since the gravel or sand is intended to represent water. Rock layout and type is affluential to Asain culture and are intended to have secific placement and meaning.

Thanks paponte! the water feature was meant for a different part of the landscape, but I'll definitely dig deeper.

have you done any projects or have any images you could email me? thx!

You are in Southern Ca, there are lots and lots of parks as well as landscaping outlets that specialize in that type of garden. I would look around and go to them.
It is very hard to understand and put together a proper "garden" without looking at several to see what works and what doesn't. It is definately a look and balance thing that can't be learned very easily by reading about it

    Thanks Bill, appreciate the reply.

I'm heading to the bookstore this weekend to read up on design options and hopefully find some examples to go by.

Definitely a long work in progress
