Where I'm at in my research for a ZTR for next spring, is a BadBoy with a 60" lightning with a 32 VG on her. I'm thinking I will have gator 3-1 mulching blades with it. now, with that set up, can you pros tell me if I need to have the mulching kit put on?? or can I just have the OCDC thingy on it...the reason Im asking is that I have a 46 inch muray with gators on it and she just pulverizes the clippings...so Im wondering if I need all that mulching stuff on it...when I let it throw the clippings out the side, there's not really to much discharge to speak of LOL...Since I been on here learning from you guys some techniques on what to do with the deck and blade sharpening etc... the diference has been night and day. I've manipulated the leveling system on my rider to where I could pitch the deck they way you fellas have spoke of, and its just amazing...be safe...

If you just run a OCDC you will get a line of clippings left on the discharge chute. A mulch kit is more than a block off plate. There are also new baffles installed under the deck that create 3 separate cutting circles, that keeps the grass from all moving over to the discharge side.

okies dokie..I was afraid of that...sometimes if I dont wait til the grass is thoroughly dry or mow to low, I get that "wind-row" effect that you may be talking about...I did see where under my rider the deck has the "compartments" where the blades have there own shell so to speak...I didnt think it made that big of difference lol...thank you...be safe...

I have a OCDC on my Exmark Viking, and leave a horrible wind-row if I close my shoot for more than a few seconds. I only use it closed for a few seconds at a time as I pass a mulch bed or something.
The deck is designed to throw grass to the discharge side, and then out the chute. When mulching the baffles the baffles prevent this, and keep you from overloading the one side.

Sorry

Have a Bad Boy, have the mulch kit, have an OCDC and have yet to install the mulch kit :) Not saying it's not needed but running doubles with gators on top provide excellent lift, clipping reduction, and disbursement. You can't run it with the OCDC down all the time as you will end up with a windrow as discussed above. I'm thinking of sticking on the mulch kit but I'm not sure it's really needed.

operator controlled discharge chute......it closes off the discharge area to elimate blowout into beds, drives, walks, or anywhere you don't want ot have clippings. Also great if you pass someone and want to eliminate possibly shooting something at them. IMHO They are a must have if you discharge.

bad boy makes a mulching kit for a 60? it does not list one on there web site. I just run the gators.

I misspoke, I actually meant from the Pup on up! my bad :)

I got a 60" mulch kit to try out, but just haven't installed it yet. I use the ACS system, and olve being able to open and close it, saved me alot of money on windshields and windows. Maybe Spring I will throw it on my 32hp vanguard demo to see what it does.
