I have a Simplicity 50” Zero Turn Mower with a Briggs and Stratton 20 HP Vanguard. Starts and runs great except for the fact that it will not keep the battery charged. I carry a charged spare battery with me and about once a month I have to change batteries.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a multi-meter or any other test tools?

    Yes, I do have a multi-meter.

When it is off, connect the meter and measure the voltage.
Then start it, and once it's running, repeat.
If the voltage has not increased at all, there would seem to be a problem
with either a connection somewhere, or the charging system.

At this point I'm lost since all of mine are recoil, but I'm guessing
these engines charge batteries via the magnetos?

    No via the alternator.
