i believe belt drive walk behinds were popular in the late 80's through the 90's...i'm guessing lawn tractors were popular too...don't forget about the 21's tho, a lot of people around here, from what i hear, only used 21's, big companies with 250+ accounts too, that's just crazy. lawn boys and john deeres seem to come to mind.

it would be weird sending out 15 guys with only push mowers

Snapper rear engines, Cub Cadet, Wheelhorse and John Deere diesel lawn tractors, Grasshopper, Gravely and Steiner front mounts even GE electric front mounts. Even old Panzers. (Not the German kind.)

    I started out with a 1968 Cub Cadet 125 tractor (48" cut 12hp hydrostatic)

Then went to John Deere 318

Then went to John Deere F-935 (Front runner)

Back in the early 80's before I considered myself a "PRO" by today's standards, the "REAL" Pro's were using Yazoo front mounts with a single steerable rear tire....much shorter then the Tricycle Ferris' and SCAGs. The Yazoo's were more compact with twin saddle tanks over drive tires.

This was before SCAGS's and likely before the Bobcat walkbehinds came out.

Prior to that I remember guys using self propelled Locke gang reel mowers.

This was also prior to string trimmers or power blowers!
