I have found many discussions on what ZTR gives the best cut, and a bunch of pro's and and con's on many makers. What I want to know is what Lawn tractor gives the best cut and has many perks. I would think JD's would probably be top choice like the 585 or 700 series. Any thoughts?

I don't have one but I'm pretty sure the Deere x749 has to cut pretty well. For about $14000 is better cut just as well as any commercial ZTR.

I'm no "die-hard" John Deere man but I agree they make the best garden tractors out there. I've had a 445 and a 455; both with the 60" deck. They just don't make'em like that anymore. :)

I have a john deer x279 I use on mine and my elderly neighbors cause I like putzing around on it. I have to admit it that its cut is one of the best I have ever seen for a non commercial deck - hell its better then some of the commercial ones I have seen. I can even put nice stripes in with it.

I have the X485 AWS and X724 AWS both with the 62C deck and they will cut very nice even in heavy /tall grass, just not near as fast as a ZTR. They do lay nice stripes. I have had several comments on the lawns we do with them on how nice the stripes look and how manicured the lawn is when we are finished. Yes they are big $$$, but you get what you pay for in the garden tractor segment (at least with the brands available in my area).

Don't some of the bigger models have the same 7Iron decks as the ZRTs?

hmartin, Yes, you can get the 60 inch 7 Iron deck on the standard steer X700 series tractors. That deck is excellent on the ZTRs, so I would think it would be great on the tractor as well.

I have a GX 335 with power steering, hydraulic deck lift and a 52c" mulching kit and the 20 hp Kawasaki AC engine. I can also lockup the rear differential for steep inclines or slippery conditions. The deck on it cuts amazing and with the power steering, you can sit back with one "cold beverage" in one hand and the other hand on the wheel, making k-turns as easy as pie.
