Just wondering which state or area is easiest to make a living in the lawn care business. I have heard the rates can be low in say Florida due to high competition. Whats the best areas for higher rates and lower competition. It seem like since ZTR's have become so popular that everyone has a trailer with a couple of mowers and trimmers around here.

I would think a lot of factors should be considered. Affluence, state regualtions, weather, property values, density, overall economy, etc.

I know in Toronto, Ontario business is G-o-o-d. There is more houses going up than people moving into them. Commercial lawn care is seriously good too.

The funny thing is (and I know Toronto is not a state) but if the LCO's in OUR area would charge MORE, they would certainly get it. People DO NOT want to cut their grass here. Alot of people wait until June to book but since I always charge them for 2 cuts on the first one due to height, it works out.

There is also a big lawn service that people dont seem to be tapping into here but I am not at liberty to say due to the other torontonians here and I am a greedy SOB.

Florida is one of the best states to be in for this business.

    Mow all year round.

Winter months, we come every other week but we charge on a monthly basis so we don't lose out on income.

Every home has a lawn service and new homes and developments are being built everywhere.

We have so much work down here, there is plenty to go around.

Most homes are on tiny lots so we are in and out in less than 15 min. a yard, and thats why prices are cheap, we just mow a lot more in a week than up north, it all adds up.

I live out in the sticks 70 acershow I like it. But I drive 15 min and boom a nicly populated area with cookie cutter homes and lots for 35-45 a crack plus you always get the side work. It is ok around here now alot of part timers and really small operations have just up and stopped mowing. Thanks to them and no new business we have landed a ton of work and we get it at our price.

also to add to the florida area we have the snow birds and many retired people who just smiply dont want to deal with there landscape. Snow birds mostly have 2 properties here and back home, property still needs maintained.

Long island is real good. There are so many legit LCO's that everyone can make money somehow... 2 years ago my town was the 13th highest in income avg i believe

there are not many mexicans trying to lowball, no one working out of station wagons.. the people working out of pickups with minimal equipment charge the avg going prices

most landscapers dont have to even leave the town because they make enough money concentrating in one area i know many companies that have 200-500 acounts and they dont even have a large share of the mkt

    theres plenty to go around

up here people will pay for good service. most people around here are seasonal people and aren't afraid of a higher bill.
