Best truck options for putzing around neighborhoods and plowing

    Im looking to switch t0 a new truck and have been going back and forth and trying to get as much info as I could and goggling info, and hearing people flipping ***** about the dumbest little things about all trucks makes me want to buy a Toyota Corrola and tow with that :rolleyes: On top of that you dont know who abuses their truck or doesnt maintaine them, so despite my resitance I figured Ild ask the guys doing the same thing with their trucks I am.
    Ive used my 98 Dodge Ram 1500 for 10 years now pulling a trailer with about 2-3k lbs of mowers on them, 175 starts or so a week and always very well maintained and serviced. About 8k miles a year and the last few years have had alot of issues I assume mostly with age, but finally the tranny is going and I figure it may be time to switch before other major things start to go.
    Have a 04 Ram 2500 used for daily driving and plowing with only 43k miles, only about 500 miles a year for plowiing and almost all of em driveways. Kinda pissed that with so few miles and little hard use I had to replaced U joint, bearing, ball joint etc, and from looking around tranny issues again are soon to come. Local cops dropped Dodge after a few years due to tranny issues too.
    So Im done with Dodge.

    Looking into either a 2005-07 Ford F250 gas (preferably v10) or 2003-2007 Chevy 2500 HD/GMC 2500HD gas.
    From what I can garner Ford is number 1 by alot, but most of those sale go to cities and towns, or large fleets for companies. Chevy/GMC seem to be the choice of smaller business owners. All this from an outside standpoint, and I have no loyalty to either, just looking for options on reliabilty and how these will stand up to the strain of 175+ starts a week, city/neighbohood towing, and very little plow use. All 3 are somewhat hard on the engine and tranny and Im looking for whatever will keep me out working and making money the most for 10 years or so.

    Any insight from those with experience or knowledge would be very much appreciated :)

    I own a small business, I use to pulls small trailer in my 2001 maxima. Looks very unprofessional. I recently bought a 2007 Chevrolet silverado and love it. It's a great truck for this business. I also use to drive a f150 and f350 both amazing trucks. The chev and gmc route is cheaper .. I paid 5000 for my 07 silverado 2wd 4.8L @ 140*** k and I plan to have this for at least 5 years.

    I have a 2005 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 gas, regular cab 2WD. I've got a dump insert in it and it hauls heavy weights very well. I've had 4,000 pounds in the bed (overloaded a bit I know) and it handles it great. I also tow light (2000 lbs) on a regular basis and up to 6000 occasionally. It also handles that well. I think it would pull 10K but would not do that regularly. It's been virtually problem-free since new. It's thirsty on gas but handles anything I throw at it. If you are shopping, keep in mind that the newer style (2007 and newer) uses a 6 speed auto that has much better ratios than the older 4 speed like what I have. In fact, a 6 speed with 3.73 rear end gears has better overall gearing for towing than my 4 speed with 4.10s.

    I've been a fan of fords for awhile but am seriously looking at the 2013 3500 dodge HO it will come with proven asisn trans rather then corporate.

    My personal experience would be that you really don't an HD truck to pull that light of a trailer. I have three fords. A F250 Super duty 5.4(165k miles), F350 and F450 dump 7.3 powerstrokes. I tow 90% of my equipment(Skid Steer and 7k Lb. excavator included) with the F250 and have never had an issue. The F450 could pull a train but what's the point? You also mentioned preferring the v10 motor but I think that goes along the same lines of being overkill for what you'll be doing. My perspective would be to get a 150/1500 since you'd be saving money on the original purchase as well as fuel.
