Big Chipper Alternator stopped working

I dug it out today and it tested good. I apparently lost a wire from the starter that provides a shot of voltage to alternator to get it started. My question is where does that wire attach on starter? Two places (1 and 2) that it could connect.

Vermeer wanted $1190 for new one:eek::eek:. We have a shop that fixes alternator and starters of all sizes thankfully.

Get ya a wiring diagram fer the motor and the chipper. Should have em on their website, no?
Or just drag the alt. to the shop and ask them which is which.
One prolly is the exitation wire and one could be for the charge indicator light.
Or google that brand of alternator. Usually will show what is what.

It is the one with the nut. Shop said I could just jump from output, but I didn't. We could not find the wire that came off the alternator even with our wire finder.
