How does everyone normally bill for a mulch job (4 cu yds)? Do you get paid upfront? Collect payment after work is done, but before leaving? Mail them an invoice? This is a new customer, first job I've done for her. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Materials times three or four, and bill them afterwards

Get paid upon completion. First time job get paid upon completion.

I get 50% of the total job cost up front & use it to buy material. They pay the other 1/2 when the work is done.

if it is a new customer I would ask for some up front. I normally ask for about 50% of material costs up front if it is a new customer. Regular customer, I just bill them the total cost on their next monthly invoice.

Good point. I like that. I should have mentioned that all my clients with big mulch installations this year are new for me.

I agree with the 50% up front. But only on new customers you do not know.
I had a couple of new customers. They were new to me but old friends with some of my best customers. These customers had recommended me to them. I just felt with this situation if I had asked for up front money I might have insulted them and maybe loose my current cust.
