What are you guys paying out the door for a new Billy Goat 18HP?
I just bought one a few weeks back brand new Billy Goat 18hp pull start. 2010 last year model..still new with warranty $2,500 bucks cash
To the original question - 13 hp Billygoat sure beats tarps (our first vac) but the crew (2-3 people) would have to wait for the vac to catch up sometimes. Our second vac was a 16hp Lesco, and so is our 3rd. At 16hp the vac usually waits for the crew to get the leaves there: 10 cubic yards of dryish leaves take 30-40 minutes to load if they are all piled up. We have a tailgate mount for practical reasons, but I really don't see a need for a bigger engine, as long as the impeller is in good condition (wear on the impeller really kills suction and slows everything down).
Oh yeah, smaller engine = smaller intake hose = more clogs. The 13 hp choked a lot more easily, though operator skill has a lot to do with it too... The 16hp has a 10" diameter hose that handles quite a few sticks and twigs.
Bigger is better of coarse, but if your solo and you only have 5 cleanups like you mentioned, get what you can afford, still better than the tarp which I think any vac would help
What? That's a steal!!!!
That is a steal. I just picked up a 18hp electric start Goat for $3200. Mine is this years model.
I have the 13 HP goat and really it does come down to operator and how clean is the pile. We do a number of residential clean-ups but we hit the houses every ten or so days starting today and going through Thanksgiving. We do several one timers, and it is slow, but it does beat the tarps and we can fit 10 times as much in the truck. When capital allows I probably will upgrade to larger model, but physical size of the unit is important as I have a special mount on my trailer that allows me to carry all the mowers without compromising leaf hauling space and ease of dumping.
Mine may have been a leftover from last year I think. Pull start. It was $2999 plus tax.
Yeah I was told 3100 plus tax for this years recoil model. He gave me a deal on the electric start because he thought he had a recoil start in stock but it turned out he didn't. I'm not gonna complain about that.
