Depends upon what type of properties you are servicing.
Anything with a lot of blowing such as long driveways, patios, walkways, it is better to have a backpack. Otherwise, it chews up too much time blowing with a handheld.

We have both. We service some really small lawns, and I prefer to use the handheld on these types.
But for larger properties, I use the backpack.
Not only that, but as you provide more than just the basic service, like shrub trimming, cleanups. The back pack has the power to handle blowing debris out from planting beds. And it works well blowin the dust off you at the end of the day....:)

I would go with a backpak blower, it will save you more in the long run. Their are many types out their that dont cost a fortune. May i Suggest echo..

Try moving a big pile of leaves with handheld blower. You might as well break out the rake. Sure a backpack cost more, but in the long run it will save all kinds of time.
I have three types of blowers: hand held, backpack, and walk behind. Landscaping jobs I use the back pack for clean-up. If I am doing a full spring or fall yard clean-up then the wb and back pack. For cleaning up clippings after mowing we use the hand held.
get the backpack..it will come in handy during fall cleanups
I also have all three blowers (same as FFSHUTER) except the handheld has been relegated to the position of 'backup', it is now positioned in a corner of the trailer and hasnt seen service for over a year. Go with the backpack.
