Going to be doing about a dozen blowouts this Fall. What are your tricks or tips? Thanks
Step on misty heads to get the water out.
Ensure the water is off at the backflow
Add a bit of RV antifreeze to pumps
Bring at least three guys to blow through the pipe it's too hard with just one man alone
I’m not an irrigation guy but have done a couple blow outs as a helper. don’t you have to drain the line from the basement shut off to the back flow? Or was that on just the ones I happened to go to?
I also remember using jumper wires in the box so you could do 2 or 3 zones at a time
Some systems do have the drain in the elbows, not all of them though.
Make sure you get the correct hose fittings, i have two separate connections, a fitting to connect into the spigot or the check valve if there isn’t one
How long do you like to run the compressor for each zone? Drip zones? What pressure do you recommend?
Depends on the zone, the compressor, the pressure you’re set at, how much and what size hose you’re using, what size/type of fitting you’re connected to the system with, where the valves are, the size of the heads on the zone, are the heads fed from the side or the bottom. Yes it’s simple work, but if you’re giving these people your real number you could be on the hook for a lot more than you’re going to make if you’re doing it wrong. Also, if you’re only doing a dozen blowouts I wouldn’t think it’d be worth the hassle/rental.
When In doubt throttle out!
That’s a good way to fck sht up ...
