i just put new front brakes on my 1987 chevy pickup, and bled the lines thoroughly. But i think the brake pedal goes down unnormally low. Do you think the back brakes are shot? thanks

Did the pedal go down low before replacing the ft brakes? If yes then you may have other issues like the back shoes not adjusted correctly or master cylinder bypassing or a leaky brake cylinder or a bad rubber brake line going to a ft caliper that is swelling under pressure.
The only work you did to the brakes was just put new pads on and bleed the ft. brakes only. If only replacing pads it is not necessary to bleed system, not unless you just want to put new fluid in.
