I was aware of this thread, but haven't been following it for a while, so I was surprised (and IMPRESSED) when my replacement capacitor arrived yesterday. This is probably a stupid question, but will the old capacitor be entergized during removal (assuming I unplug the sharpener beforehand)? I've heard of folks having nasty experiences with capacitors when they touched the wrong thing without first discharging the capacitor.

    Hello All,

Of course be sure to unplug the sharpener before working on it.

We have not experienced any shocks from these capacitors because they are relatively small. The way you would receive a shock is if you used something metal and made contact between the two posts (terminals). So you would really have to be trying since they are a decent distance apart from each other.

You'll start having bad experiences with the 100 microfarad capacitors, where in the MAG-9000 you're dealing with 30 and 40 microfarad. And as I understand it, in the larger ones they usually have resistors to prevent shocks too.

    Thank you,

    Hello All,

I've had one or two calls with a little confusion on the wiring diagram we provided.

    Just to be clear:

    1. You need the red wire from the motor on one post of the capacitor

    2. You need the white wire from the motor and the white wire from the cord set on the other post of the capacitor.

If you get this wrong it won't hurt anything, but the motor simply will not run.

As always feel free to call with any questions.

I hate it when they send the wrong flux capacitors.

Magna and Gerd are definitely top notch. I thought we had a motor problem with our grinder that was well out of warranty and he was going to look into it, but we discovered the issue and fixed it.

    Hi Mark,

10 jigga-watts too much and you'll be sent further back to the future than you wanted. Then your DeLorean over-heats and your stuck in a field. OMG.

Back to the Future - fun fact - Flea the bassist from Red Hot Chili Peppers was in Back to the Future II.

    Have a good weekend all.

    Hello All,

Just as a clarification to anyone reading this post later.

The issue with the capacitors - was caused LEESON ELECTRIC simply not providing the correct capacitors. The capacitors were not bad, just the wrong spec.

    Thank you,
