briggs help

    17.5 ohv briggs-cranks freely with plug out-will not crank with plug in and compression added.also crankcase was full of gas and oil.wondering if engine is shot . thanks

    How long was it operated with gas in crank?

    no way of knowing how long gas was in crankcase-I've heard gas and bearings dont mix.

    Sounds like the valves need adjustment, The compression release is not working. Adjust the valves and change the oil and see what the engine sounds like. If noisy then damage has occurred if not run it till it blows. Also replace the float needle valve in the carb. and replace the fuel filter, Thats probably how the fuel got into the crankcase in the first place.
