After four years it was bound to happen. Had my first glass break. My Z threw a rock across three lanes of traffic and tagged the driver's door on a vehicle traveling about 40 mph. All the luck... Fortunately the window had tint film on it and held together and noone was hurt. $265.00 and they're on the road again.

At the time I was running the Z with the chute down. I was wondering if anyone had experimented with a rubber flap at the end of the chute to knock down heavier objects.

Not with a rubber flap, but that can happen even with the OEM discharge chute installed. It happened to me once with a golf ball...thing flew out like Tiger Woods hit it with his 2 iron, and hit the windshield of an oncoming car. I once had a tennis ball come out of a 21 incher even with the rear bagger on!

Just gotta try and be careful I guess...

I was mowing with my 61" Turf Tiger.....Decided this week to put a hi-lift blade on the chute side to get some more vacuum on that end.....Rolling along, hit a piece of glass with the front tire, blew out the tire....as the deck pitched down to the ground it picked up a stone and threw it through a side window of a brand new Jeep.....Thank God for factory tint, it held it together.....The guy thought he was back in Vietnam......Funny thing is that he slowed down to look at my mower because he was thinking about buying one for his property.....Wonder what he thinks of them now!!

I hit a golf ball one time. It flew across the lawn, over the house across the street and over the next home. As it went out of sight it looked to still be climbing. I sure wouldnt want to hurt anyone. It scared me sick for the rest of the day.

Today I threw a baseball from under my Walker. Nice throw if I was in Left field throwing to 1st.

Later on in the day traveling from one job to another. Saw a SUV in front me change lanes and doing so nicked a 6" - 8" length of 2x4. Hurled the thing across a 30' median and impacted against a car door going the other direction. Wow was that LOUD!!!

it always amazes me how far you can throw something when you hit the sweet spot. i threw a tennis ball about 150' last week. the best/worst are by far, the golfballs, they're the perfect weight for a blade to smack a long, long way. i always hold my breath when i hit something, like that'll make it slow down or not hit something ;-)

I hit a rock once and it was thrown threw a storm window and then it hit a window sash square between four windows and took that out and then landed on a dining room table. You should have seen the bill for that one. I had to have the four windows replaced in addition to the wooden sash. It was one of those 6 over 6 windows.

ouch! How big does the bill have to be before most of you make a claim against you insurance? I'm scared to death to file a claim since insurance companies are in the practice of canceling policies. I used to sell insurance and know this first hand.

in my opinion, the only point of insurance is to use it when disaster happens. ie, you hit a kid, drive your mower through a glass house filled with crystal, etc.

there's virtually no point to make a claim when your deductible will be $500 and the claim is for $650. Next billing you'll see a nice increase in your dues.

I'd rather have a high deductible and lower monthly payments and only use it when there is a major problem versus having a low deductible/high payments and use it for every break of a window.

BSDeality - Deductible only counts on YOUR stuff. Your LIABILITY has NO DEDUCTIBLE. One of my workers put a rock through a clients sliding glass door. Client (NICELY) told us about it. I went back to check on it. I watched the door slowly crack into a million pieces. It traveled from bottom to top over about 5 minutes and it sounded like ice cracking. Replacement was $500 and I let the insurance company handle it for me.

I shot a tennis ball out from under my Lazer a couple of weeks ago. Seemed like it was going about 75mph. Just missed my trimmer by about 2 feet. I hate those surprises that high grass hides.

A buddy of mine has a rock stuck in his siding just below the second story bathroom window. He leaves it there to remind his kids not to play outside while he is mowing.
