My insurance agent and auto mechanic both belong to BNI, and are trying to get me to join. The groups (there are several in my area) meet weekly from 7-8:30am. Each group has 15-20 members and they allow only one of each profession in a group. This means only one insurance agent, one plumber, one mechanic...one landscaper. The goals are to have group members utilize your service themselves, and also for them to recommend you to others. Each member carries a notebook with the other members' business cards to distribute. IOW, it's like having 15-20 part-time sales people getting referrals for you. It costs about $300 to join a group and then another $20-$30/month toward the meeting room. My insurance agent says he's gotten about $200k in business over the past five years. Have any of you had any experience with this or other networking groups? Seems the advantage of this over Rotary and some other organizations is that you would be the only landscaper in a group. Thanks for your input.
