I will be purchasing all new equipment over the winter and moving into another area. I have already order a new chevy cab and chassis with the duramax and allison. I will be putting a Omaha Standard bed on it and a Meyer snow plow. Behind this I will be pulling a 28' Haulmark edge race trailer. I will be purchasing 2 60" liquid cooled Lazer Z's because they seem to have the best bagging setup for a 60" cut. I will also be purchasing 2 Turf tracer hp's with 48" cut and elec. start Kawasaki's, and one Viking hydro 32" cut. My question is should I run exmark 21" mowers or should I go ahead and purchase the Hondas? I do bag EVERYTHING so I'm leaning more towards the Hondas. Tell me what you think. And for those of you who are curious I use all Redmax handhelds.

No, actually I sold my business one year ago and I'm getting back into the business. I have talked to all of my old customers and they want me to come back they are not happy with the new owner. I considered buying everything back from him but all my old equipment is not in the shape I kept it in. I didn't sell the guy any contracts or sign a no compete so I have no legal problems stepping right back into where I left off. So, I am going to go buy all new equipment with the money he paid me originally and take back over all my old work.

Ok I got married and thought it would be worth it to get out and get a job with retirement and benefits. Well I got a really good job at a local funeral home but I hate the being on call on nights and such. I just really miss being my own employerer and working outside.

Married, retirement, bennies, working at a funeral home on call at nights (no way Jose), working for yourself...that answers a couple of ?'s.

Go the Honda! In my experience these bag best.Just watch out not to get any crap in ya fuel tank the carbys on them are really temperamental. A tiny little bit of dirt can send em coffing and spluttering. This is the only problem I have had with em.

Hey,

just becareful - talk to your lawyer and make sure there is not a non-compete claus burried in the sale documents. I know the two bussiness I have bought, it is spelled out that the seller can not go back into original bussiness or a similiar one that offers the same services I offer for a term of 5 years. I actually had to take a guy to court over this, he sold me his book of customers and I caught him out that next spring mowing a client I bought and had lost soon after the acquisition. I ended up getting 10 additional clients and the majority of his equipment when it was all said and done in court.
Needless to say the guy is cutting grass now in a different state.

Just cover your tail.

Even though you know what your doing.. I would start your business out slow. I dont think you need all that to start out again. But thats just my 2 cents. I see lCO's come and go around here because they build too fast.

I am not worried about buying too much equipment. I have talked to all of my old customers and they all want me back plus I've picked up quite a bit of new work to start next spring. So actually I will be doing even more work than I use to be doing. As for the non compete there was none in the sale. All I sold the guy was my old equipment, there was no actual sale of the business.

Actually I do still have one 85 still. I bought it the fall when I knew I was getting out of the business and it has been used on nothing more than my yard so far this season. If you are interested in it shoot me a price I will probably be selling it so I can have all matching mowers.

First, I would check out Walker mowers if you plan on bagging everything. Second, I would re-consider my business plan if I was you. If you gave the guy all the accounts with the machines, and then you go and take back all those accounts... If I was that guy I would NOT be happy... and quite honestly, neither would you. :(
