Currently looking at a second hand Cat 226, 2000Hrs but looks to have had a fairly easay life and has been well maintained. It is the first series(Not a 226B)

Does anyone have any advice on these?

    Any Problems?

    Comments?

Gareth, that model was the first pilot controlled skid I drove after yankem sticks and pedals. I thought it was a bit of a handful at the time but now I wont have anything else. That machine had over 2000 hrs on it when I was driving it and we really did some work. I saw it the other day and its still going strong at over 3000 hrs and no problems whatsoever. A gutsy little hardworker..no frills. It is Cats biggest seller in this part of the world but at the end of the day, no matter the brand, it all depends how its been looked after.

Have you run a pilot controlled machine before?..if not it can take a little getting used to.

You should get another 4000 hours from that machine with little maintenance, unless of course you work in a salt mine or some other corrosive environment. How much are they selling it for?

I have run 2 different 226's, 2 different 216's, a 242, and played with a 248 for a short time, all machines had varying hours ranging from 20 to 2,200 hours and were all extemely consistent in "feel" all the way up to 2,200 hours, which is how many one 226 I ran had. Needless to say, the 216/226 is still my favorite. I wish we would have spent a little more and got the boost in horsepower, especially now with the 226B's being turbocharged.
