Cat 287 engines that will work?

I'm looking at a 2004 Cat 287 with a bad motor. The motor that I think came in the machine is a 3034T.

They guy does not have the core so therefore the motor replacement is going to be very expensive. If I'm forced to put a motor in it anyway is there a better motor to go with? I have read that some think the 287 lacks in HP so I was thinking maybe there is a bigger motor that I can put it that will bolt to the tranny that will work.

Anyone have any ideas? Are there other motors like Kubota that will bolt up and allows the electronics to work and what do you suggest I go with?

Cant lose on the machine at the price im getting it for. Hydraulics and all are "said" to be ok. I could sell the tracks and be in the green on it if anything else is bad.
