I suppose I should recant if you felt that I didn't think SEO was important for local services. However, the competitive nature of that part of the business is so overwhelming at the moment that it's going to get either a.)very expensive b.)very difficult for your page to be optimized to flag on all the top search engines. I was more eluding to the fact that you should really know more, or consult someone who deals with just that if you place high importance on SEO. Honestly, most web developers today are going to optimize to the best of their ability, then they're going to recommend you find someone who can market your site. A web site is like a Tattoo- the artist does the work, but it's your responsibility to take care of it. A website done by most designers today is the same way, it's the client's responsibility to find the best marketing tools for them. I in no way meant to begin any sort of argument, but I do know a pretty good bit of information about the way the market runs today. There's a lot of networking done between companies (hosting, programming, design, SEO) to produce really stout eCommerce beasts of a website. These are all my opinions from talking with people in the industry and reading a variety of publications.
