The 6.5s are not too bad they are not the best the injection pumps on these engines seem to fail on a regular basis I know a few guys here with them they get to the 120,000kms and the pump needs work. If this truck has high miles on it I wouldn't buy it you will be dumping a bit of money into the engine the rest of the truck will be fine but its the engine.

    Good Luck

I have a 1994 with the 6.5 turbodiesel. It has 257,000 miles on it and runs great. It has had one injection pump put on it at about 100,000 miles. I would not hesitate to buy another one.:D

My step father was the last person I know to have a 6.5 turbo, think it was in a 96 2500 pickup.

If my memory does not mistake me, his injection pump went 2-3 times also. However, chevy gave him a extension on his warranty, something like another 20k on the already 100k the motor has already. Also, I thought chevy finally came up with a injection pump that worked better????

I have got a 93 6.5TD with over 200K and its had one pump. If you really want to research it go to 6.2/6.5 diesel web page. It would take days to read all the information on that site relating to GM diesels. Just for the record, GM did offer an extended warranty for the 96-98 TD's. The model year your looking at would already have the updated pump. I also had a 98 that I put 60K on and it never saw the inside of a service bay. I like the pickups. They don't have the power of a same year PS, but they have been dependable for me.

I've got a 2500 6.5l D is has 260,000 km on it and has had the injector pump/injectors done at 200,000. Other than that it is extremely reliable and a lot quieter than most diesels. (Unless you like the loud manly roar of the diesel engine:) )
