For all the guru's about chevy - can you get a 3500 HD single axel truck? My dealer said no but today at the local gas station - 4 trucks - all highway construction crews - brand new single ax 3500HD trucks. 2 were regular cab, 2 were 4 door all with long box, silverado pgk, white in color. What can you tell me!!

Sorry to piggy back on this thread, but on my way to Maine I saw a newer (2005?) Chevy pulling a 28' 5th wheel camper. The thing was sagging like crazy in the back. It looked like a 2500 HD, but I could not figure out why it was sagging. I slowed down and let it pass me. The badges on the side said 1500 HD. Is ther a 1500 HD and I have just not been paying attention? I could of sworn it was only the 2500 and 3500 series.:hammerhead:

the 1500HD replaced the standard 2500 models, so the lineup is now 1500, 1500HD, 2500HD, and 3500. i dont believe they make the 3500hd anymore (old body style) but even if they did, the 3500hd were ALWAYS single axle, dual rear wheels. the standard 3500's were single axle and available in dual or single rear wheel, the diff between the hd and regular 3500's were the front axle where the hd had a solid beam leaf sprung front axle and the 3500 had independent torsion bar front suspension.

Thanks for the info. I went and researched it on the Chevy website. Seems to be a pretty tough truck. It was just the first time I had seen one.

    I think all the 3500HD have 19.5" tires and a GVWR of 15,000lbs. I have a 1999.
