choke cherry trees

    Yes its called DONT TOP TREES. The proper method for pruning is called Drop Crotch pruning. Remove limbs to a lateral that will assume dominance. Normally that means the lateral has to be atleast 1/3 the size of the limb being removed. The "Gillion tops" is the trees response to what you have done. It is replacing leaf area that you remove.

    is there any way to prun these and not have a gillion tops grow out from were you cut the tops off ???? Thanks for any suggestions.
