Who can give me the make, model, and approximate year of this little jewel? See the next post for another clue.....

The first Choppers in production were built in 1981. There were a few prototypes built before that and were called Zippys, I think. The new Chopper I got has a sticker on it saying 20 years of Excellance, 1981 to 2001 which I think all the 2001 models will have. This is an old Chain drive Chopper, which is built by Magic Circle and I would guess it is a Briggs Engine. They did have some with an Onan, but that was in the 80's or very early 90's I think. Anyway, it looks like it's in good shape. My dealer still has some of these old ones and still uses them in his lawn business along with over 30 other newer ones. He has one with over 15,000 hours on it.

As far as I know, they were called Dixie Chopper, once they started production and built by Magic Circle.

Many thanks to Eric for the background on Dixie Chopper.

This one is a 1983 model 5018. As you might expect from the model number, it was indeed a 50" cut as someone mentioned earlier with the Briggs 18 twin.

This particular machine just sold at turfquip.com for $995 and the previous owner swears this thing held hills better than a brand new Z Master.

I'm glad a few folks had fun with this thread. I'll do it again soon. Gotta make'em a little tougher though :)

Friend of mine had one of those beasts 6 yrs. ago, with DC logo in good condition across the front.
Just talked to the guy who owned it before him on monday & was talking about it- good little mower! 50" was my guess.
