Collecting on initial contracts?

    When you sign up a new customer for a seasonal contract do you collect any sort of deposit, or a portion of the total up front?

    When we was doing trees, we told the customers that we always get half down and the rest when finished. I thought it would be a risky adventure asking for money up front, but they gave us the money up anyways.

    They were mostly old trusting people. I havent tried that with lawn care.

    So nothing up front, just monthly billing?

    We usually require 20-30% down then the rest in 11 or 12 monthly payments (equal). We do however, offer a 10% discount off the annual price if paid up front but nobody has ever taken that offer....
