I'm in! We'll have to resurrect this thread periodically as we get closer...
I've got everything booked, flight, room, and a car - they're only $150 or so a week and I like having some wheels when I travel.
I am in staying at tropicana. maybe someone can organise a meet and greet at a lounge in vegas for lawnsite users!
Did you book the room through Conexpo or on your own? I'm debating between the Tropicana and non-casinos -- I really don't want to pay $200/night, and it seems most of the ones I'm looking at are right around there.
I did mine through the ConExpo website, staying at Excalibur, I think the room prices have gone through the roof now, you might also want to check kayak.com or some similar site just in case.
I would agree about wheels in general. Vegas I have found to be another animal. We drove to ConExpo in 99. That was the last time. Was not worth having a car. PINA parking, Conexpo has shuttles that run from all Casinos to Convention center, BUT you can take shuttles from casino to casino. This does not apply late at night then it is taxi time. However still not worth getting a car.
I am staying at the Tuscany. Great stay if your not into the casino thing. Huge rooms, kinda like the RIO in that respect.
As it gets closer lets plan a get together once we see what day most people have in common in Vegas.
i booked direct with the hotel as i was not registered for con expo untill i knew i could get reasonable airfares and accomodation. then i registered.
There are some steals -- like $49 for the Super 8 -- but I'm in the Detroit area and can probably find about the same for cheaper. Joking aside, I'd really love to stay at the Aria or new tower of Planet Hollywood, but I'm trying to avoid paying to play that game. If this were more epic -- a bachelor party or something -- sure, but it's going to be me and I'm too cheap to get a $300 hotel room for myself. I'll keep my eyes open and see if there are any sales that come up...
1) Driving in Vegas -- or for the purpose of getting around in Vegas -- is terrible. Traffic sucks on its own, but then there are millions of people and most of them are drunk. There are undoubtedly exceptional circumstances, but unless you're planning some longer trips (i.e. away from Vegas), I agree with Shane here..
2) Hmm... interesting. I'll have to look into that one.
Ah, gotcha. I did the same thing. Flights are booked but hotels I'm still mulling the options.
What kind of wheels did you rent me?? LOL
