Here's the deal:

I just bought a used box truck. The box has been painted with advertising from the previous company. I'm needing to paint over the company name & logo so I can install some vinyl lettering to the box. Nothing fancy, nothing professional looking. I'm just needing to cover the existing company name with spending as little as possible. What would you suggest? Sand it down and paint over? Just paint over the name? etc

Go Big or go home. Your truck is the first thing people usually see. It needs to represent your business. If you feel you can DIY then have at it.

is the old name a sticker or wrap? or was it painted on?

Heat gun to get vinyl lettering off & pressure washer to get all.
If the lettering is just painted on then just paint over it with a paint made for medal.We used "Rustkat" .... check spelling. Has held up great. Rolled it on and looks great.

usually you can use oven cleaner which will take the written paint off. however, i'm not confident it wouldn't take existing body color paint off though.
