Some of my lawns have been exploding w/ crabgrass over the past 3 weeks and I am not happy. I applied Scotts ($$$) pre-m in the spring and it did not work well. Any tips for getting rid of the crabgrass now or do I have to wait until next spring? THanks

For just crabgrass, the best and most effective would be Acclaim, about $70 a pint and a rate of about 1.5 oz per gallon/ per 100 sq.ft. if I recall. Another would be MSMA or Trimec Plus which is 2-4 D, Dicamba, and MSMA, but the latter two can burn quickly if applied to heavy or under heat and drought stress.

Sorry, that would be 1.5 oz. per gal/per 1000 Sq. Ft. on the Acclaim.

If the crabgrass is just now starting to grow then I'd say that the Scotts Pre-Em did a fine job. You need to follow up with a second application of any pre-em in order to get full season coverage. Second application usually goes down in June.

Late stage adult crabgrass, time for Drive as Kent Lawns refers too. Will work excellent for spot treatment to areas without much phytotoxicity to most other grasses around it. I've mixed with 1 oz scoop to a 2.5 galon jug along with a few ounces of Methylated seed oil for better coating of material. Agitate 2.5 gal jug before adding to dock sprayer and play taps for your crabgrass problems.
