I had a long lawn and decided to cross-cut in a checkered patern as it needed a double cut. On the 2nd pass, the original stripes were for the most part erased. How do you go about cross cutting? Do you switch directions every other week or do you double-cut each week? I know some grasses stripe better than others, but does it make a huge difference when cross cutting? I don't use stripe kits. Are they necessary to make the checkered pattern show up? How do you get a best result?

Our patterns are still visible up to a month later as we cut in 4 different directions before starting over. We are using Super Zs with no stripe kits. These are weekly single cuts.

Cut the same way at least twice before you go 90 degrees on it. The grass will develop a memory. After twice the other way alternate weekly.

If your looking for stripes.. ya cutting the same direction a couple weeks will do the trick, but I would advise against it. yards should always be mowed in a different direction.
