I posted a few other threads, my land is only 80x100 I want something a little bigger than my 21". I was told for my size property a cub cadet would be fine and probably the cheapest. I cant justify spending 3k on a mower

Yeah, not quite sure what youre asking here. More details would be helpful. Are you looking at riders too? I have a Cub Cadet tank z turn but then again i have a couple acres to mow. Would be over kill for you. I have had good luck with it. I also agree dealers are hard to find and parts can be a pia to find as well.

Sorry guys for being unclear. I want something bigger than my 21" so i was looking at walk behinds...cub cadets and red hawks seem to be the most reasonable price and my property is small. Just looking for feedback if cub cadets are junk or not for homeowner use. My kentucky bluegrass is thick so i need alot of cutting power. I was considering a john deere riding mower for 1500 with 42" deck but i was told walk behinds are more efficient?

Got ya, dont know the red hawks but do know cub cadet & JD residential mowers are made by MTD. If you are just using it for residential i think u would be fine. Most guys on here are pros and they will not recommend them. I agree with them that if you do go commercial it should last longer, but you will pay alot more up front. Its all personal preference in my opinion. Is your lot flat or hilly? That would make a difference between a walk behind or rider..

Flat and i have alot of stuff to go around...I found the red hawk delivered for like $1800 for a 36" deck. Read mixed things though that they are made in china and stuff like that.

Ah ok, if you have lots to go around i would definitely stay away from riders such as riding tractors. I would go with a walk behind. But yeah i havent heard much on those red hawks..

Actually , The L100 Series are made in a John Deere plant in Greeneville, TN on Hal Henard Rd. Not by MTD.

MTD also had/has a plant in Greeneville TN on Depot St, This is where the rumors start I think.

The JD mowers are made by JD, plain and simple. Are the ones that are sold in Lowes and HD built with lessor/cheaper parts? Yes, but only to a certain degree...they're still reliable mowers. Cub Cadet on the other hand is owned by MTD, and you can see how that helps them out so much. Cub Cadets of today are no where near the Cub Cadets of 20 years ago.

Hmm well i thought it was the L series that was mfg by MTD. Either way I have heard many bad things about this series (predominantly sold in big box stores) especially dealing with the pulleys on the decks/belt issues.

Maybe it's luck of the draw.
I still have a L111 that's about 8 years old and still use it on very hilly properties that a ZT won't work well on. It's got a B&S engine in it with over 1600 hours that's always been run on Castrol Syntech. Never any problems. Belts last about 400 hours, Cuts good with Gator blades. Forget it if you want to Bag. The decks do suck if the grass is wet a all.

Defintely luck of the draw, thats cool that you have a good unit. I am in no way bashing JD as i love em. Ive had many but never an L series. I currently have a LX178 and an older 185 Hydro. My neighbor has a L120 and has had nothing but problems. Every mfg has their issues.
