Im getting all my stuff together to open my own business (2011 season) Got my ZTR and WB and tailer. So today Im in the garage welding on my trailer and I see the owner of a local company pull in to mow my neighbors lawn. He gets on a BRAND NEW Walker and i notice hes wearing flip flops. REALLY? The best part of the story he also string trimmed in them! What a joke! Much be what happens when you live at the beach.

I wear sandles sometimes Oopps!!! I'll do anything and everything to stay cool except go shirtless...

Whatever floats his boat I say...I have considered sandals from time to time but always go with the sneakers instead (summer only)
Rest of the season is heavy work boots.

Trimmer to the toes will stop that. I did see a guy a few weeks ago cutting a bank's lawn on the busiest road in town. He was wearing a pair of baggy shorts, no shirt and flip flops on a commercial property. This screams unprofessional and low budget.

I am all about being professional. I treat my customers with respect and talk to them that way. We are on a personal level. I realize that's easy to do with mine since I am only at a dozen customers Half of the are half million dollar homes in the same subdivision. I can honestly say they would have no problem with us wearing flip flops. And if I am stupid enough to do anything but ride the mower with them on well I am a dummy shame on me. Flip flops and runnin an edger or something is dumb.

Kingston Pike haha?

I have seen some pretty dumb stuff when it comes to idiots and commercial mowing equipment...

I have one property that takes two hours on the mower. I take my boots and socks off while mowing just to stay a little cooler. Never need to get off so I figure I can work on getting rid of the white feet.

I cut my own yard barefoot sometimes.

I would never do it while working on an account though.

1. It looks unprofessional
2. Not practical- you are less likely to do the necessary work because you fear hurting your ugly feet
3. I do not want somebody starting threads on the internet about me

I saw a homeowner last week mowing barefoot.
That was probably my dad, lol.

It's work boots for me, practically 24/7. Unless I'm wearing my black cowboy boots to dress up, all of my boots are goretex and 8" tall. I like to be prepared.

To each his own when it comes to the attire they wear. I will tell you that your insurance company will dictate what not to wear, etc. Anyway----------!!!!!
Have you ever had a piece of hanger about 6 inches inside your shin two inches deep??
Ever have a piece of metal inside your ankle? When I was a green mower..........meaning young, dumb, and full of ???---I wore the attire of a beach boy hippie. Hospital bills, E.R. costs and loss of work cured me of this!!!
If you think less of yourself then I wonder what you think of your employees!!!!

Well I am not a full-time yard guy but I mow about 6 properties , evey other Thursday I mow 3 of them , 2 res. And a 3 acre commercial in my teva sandals. When I finish the last property which is close to the beach I head to the bait shop and buy me some mudminnows and fish for flounder. This past Thursday I only caught two. I really think it is where you are from, here in Florida I wear shorts and sandals probably 8 months a year. Socks and shoes are so hot, man wading out into that saltwater feels good on your feet after 4 or 5 hours mowing. No one will blink an eye if you are in flip flops around here. P.s. Don't buy that squar trimmer line, it throws to much crap against your shins. Hehe

Flip Flops? You can't fix stupid...

I believe there are some OSHA guidelines.

These guys are like the morons down here riding their motorcycles wearing flip flops, shorts, t's, no helmet on I95@ 70MPH... stupid is a lot like that isn't it?

Man. We are so lucky hear to have so many people that can spot stupid people. I always wear am helmet, but I have been riding motorcycles I shorts now for 25 years. I really appreciate opinionated people explaining to me when I'm stupid. I need their help. Thanks

On a side note always wear your helmet. I'm not going to call you stupid but you are taking a heck of a chance without it. I know a guy who died 2 driveways down from his house after trying to avoid a neighbors dog on his cruiser, they guessed his speed was about 20mph , but his head hit the pavement. I'm going over the dog on my dualsport.

This thread pulls out the weekend warriors and the timid questions of professional-protective equipment attire.
I can only hope that none of which gets hurt during their career as a part time mower. If for some reason, you do become full time and carry proper insurance that these types of hair brained questions will stop. Yes, OSHA and NIOSH will stop the insanity if by chance the insurance companies don't get the point across.

everytime my head hits the pavement i make money! jk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

after racing motocross for 5 yrs and racing 3 times a weeks with practice in between a expensive helmet is so much better than a cheap one! i knocked myself out like 5 times wearing this old hjc helmet i just loved it was just so broke in to my head lol no pun intended! i later went to a shoie doug henry replica and had the worst crash of my life and my head wanst injured just the rest of me was. just a side note doug henry was the first rider ever to win a supercross on a fourstroke and he is now paralyzed from the waiste down for not smartening up and slowing down in his older age! he won motocross championships and then while retired racing supermoto ruined the rest of his life! just goes to show the best even mess up bad!
