last monday i took advantage of the night off and gorgeous weather to start work on the underneath of the ford. my plan was to get it all preped for paint. little did i know what a job it was going to be because it was very difficult to remove the fluid film. i was torn because i was having a hard time removing it:realmad:but i was pleased because it's not sposed to be removed easy:weightlifter: was kinda confusing:laugh:
if you look at the area's around where i was hitting with that grinder it's easy to see the difference in where the ff is and isn't
that's part of the cab floor, i tried wiping with my fingers to show how well the ff is holding on
that disc is loaded with a combination of ff/dirt/rust etc. everything all mixed together
the dry grey of the primer i think helps bring out how soaked the cab rails/floor still is with ff
that streak is where i didn't get the ff completely removed thus the primer wiped right off
i just put one coat from a spray can on there. i wanna see how it holds up and get the rest of the frame plus whatever part of the cab rails i can clean up done first then everything will get sprayed with a gun then fluid filmed but considering i don't have access to a lift or sandblaster i'm happy with the way it's coming out and i hope these pics help prove how well fluid film lasts

pic 1- a reminder of the 2 rust spots on that new plow i sprayed back in march
pic 2- those same spots a lil over 4 months later after being cleaned up with a waffle style disc
pic 3- 3 spots that i did not spray ff on and wish i had. just look at the amount of rust still there after hitting them with both a waffle and 24 grit grinding discs
now i ask you, does fluid film penetrate deep down into the metal to stop rust or not?
i used a different paint than i always have in the past. instead of rustoleum i used that valspar that tractor supply company sells. i can't wait to see how it holds up to the abuse it's gonna see. i still have to paint the springs/spring brackets, get it put back together then the whole thing will get a nice coat of ff
got the springs and spring brackets painted yesterday then, got it put back together today. the installation process required a lot of fluid filming:weightlifter::weightlifter:
first i sprayed/wiped down the area behind where the springs sit since there's no way i could easily do it after they were back on
next i sprayed the inside of the springs and the sides that face the backside of the plow
sprayed down the inside and outside of the sprong bracket. the adjustment rod that the bracket slides over was also sprayed liberally but those pictures didn't come out good
soaked all the bolts/washers/nuts
once everything was tightened/adjusted i sprayed the rest of the blade down then wiped it in
