Ive mowed for a really great older lady for several years. Its a small account. I heard tonight that she was killed in an auto accident. What do you guys do in this situation? I told my wife I would finish this month up for her and then contact the family (I know them well) and see what they want to do. If they discontinue service and choose not to pay I will let it slid. If it wasnt in a another town I would mow tomorrow to to make it look nice for all the family coming to town. Just wondering what you guys do.

I would try to get over there and mow tommorrow it will make a very big impact on how they deal with the situation that they have right now.

I wouldn't worry about the grass too much. I've been to quite a few funerals and unless the grass is a foot tall no one notices it. The state of the lawn is not what they will be worried about.

i disagree:nono: i had an dear old lady that died last year. after i found out i went and mowed her lawn. the next day the family couldn't stop thanking and telling me how much they appreciated that i had mow it.

That happend to me last year !!
The family was from out of town and when they came in to clean out the house I whent over and Help for free since I had a trailer and they was from out of town.
I helped them fill up a Uhaul and they told me to take the rest.
Its hard to have good client passaway on you !!
I would say most of the time the family would be glade that you came by to show that you care!!

I have been in the same situwation, and am going through simualr right now.

an elderly lady lost her husband, we sent flowers, and before the Wake. " for lack of better word" we went and did a major clean up at her home for free.

about a year later. NOW. she's in the hospitle " she had a mild stroke" her daughter called me up from New York, she is paying the bill and were keeping an eye on the house.
there's a lot pf people out there who need help. just the simple little things that have to be taken care of, to ease there minds.

Treat the situwation the way you would want to be treated, trust me it will come back to you 10 fold.

My mother was killed suddenly in an auto accident last October. Her regular lawn service came in and made sure the lawn was in tip top shape before all of the family arrived. It was GREATLY appreciated. She was in the process of selling this house as she had just bought another one. Needless to say we still have the same guy doing both houses as they sit on the market.

That little bit of extra effort has earned this gentleman loyalty as well as an account with two locations for almost a year.

Sorry to hear about your customer. You've probably already done this, but definitely send a card or some flowers. Not that it matters but do you know what religion she practiced?

I would be there first thing in the morning to make the yard look nice for family coming in. I work at a local funeral home and I mow the yard there almost every other day and check for weeds and what not everyday, keep mulch fresh and grass watered. I want the place to look like a million bucks when people come in. People do notice.
