I'm considering doing some work this season, but I don't have much experience in this field. Some of my questions might seem pretty basic to an experience crew, but I would apriciate any help. One of my questions is about dethatching. Do lawns need to be dethatched every year or is that something that can be done every couple of years.

Depends on the lawn, who cuts it how good the mulcher is...

In my experience newly sodded lawns need dethatch after 3 years. Do it in the spring while the grass is still dormant, and overseed.

Be careful dethatching, the labor is extensive, and the damage that is possible to the turf could cost a small fortune to repair.

Around here it is to late to thatch. Try and get to the yard while it's still brown. I did all my about a month ago.

You can do it every spring. What most customer's have as an idea of dethatching, is power raking up the surface dead and weak grasses after winter dormancy.
