Is anybody here using a diesel engine with a 60in decks? If yes, can you tell me especially why you choose that engine (about 1700lbs) instead of the gas engine(1200-1300lbs) Do you put your diesel engine on commercial (5 acres and+) and residential accounts (1-3acres)??<

Thanks!

I've had Kubota ZTR and front cut w/diesels. Never had a problem with weight. Kubota engines run forever and use less fuel.

Better engines, longevity, fuel economy, power, etc, etc, etc.

I run a 72" Massey Ferguson with a 33hp diesel and just upgraded my 60" Kubota 21hp to a 72" Kubota with a 31hp diesel.

I wouldn't buy anything else. I use these machines on any and ALL lawns...big or small. One must be careful though on wet lawns in the spring. Striping in different directions week to week are more important with these machines to prevent rutting.

Kubota ZD21. Engine will last longer than gas, uses less fuel, than gas and we use it on every property unless its too small to fit on. At the time diesel was cheaper than gas too but now they are about equal.

What did the Massey Ferguson cost and who sells them?

I run a 61" grasshopper with a 22hp kubota diesel. It weighs in at about 1220lbs. dry without a rider, still heavy but much less than many other diesels on the market. I run a diesel mower for many reasons.. My truck is diesel, fuel economy is better, more torque, lasts longer, sounds cool, smells good, I have a fuel station less than 2 miles away that sells off road diesel fuel and biodiesel, and I just like them...I run my mower on both residential and commercial lawns of all sizes. I agree that you have to be carefull on wet grass and take caution of ruts due to the weight.

I'm not sure of the cost but my local dealer sells them along with Kubota, grasshopper, and simplicity. I believe they are owned by Agco ?? Could be wrong if I am someone will chime in.

Why is everyone always concerned with the weight issue??

It's the size of the footprint that the tire makes.... The Kubota diesel has a 26 x 12 x 12 rear tire.

I've never had a problem with rutting, even less than a garden tractor style mower

Thanks everyone for reply! I never had a diesel mower and I tried one yesterday and I loved that. So is everybody can say without doubt that you can put a diesel mower on a small account and it won't rut more than a gas ztr? Continue to post your feedback about those mowers please!
