what are the major differences between landscape architects and contractors?

    Advantages of both

    Disadvantages of both

Unusual question you asked. Citing advantages and disadvantages is not a meaningful way to address the question. You must have some reason for making this post.

As a general comment, the two professions are entirely different, primarily meeting at the crossroads of drawings and specifications.

Well, it is basically the same as in all trades, landscape architects do the designing, and the landscape contractor does the installation. For some jobs the same person or company will do both the design as well as the installation, but for high end, large, elaborate designs a landscape architect is usually called in for the planning.
